PATH AND SPREAD DESIGN TECHNIQUES- This may be as simple as a few lights placed at corners or steps, or it may involve a combination of lights to create points of interest on ground cover and low shrubbery. Usually set fairly close to the ground, fixtures used for garden lighting highlight the variety of textures, shapes and colors that are found in your garden or flower beds. It can also define the edge of ground cover where it meets the lawn or illuminate paths and walkways from high above.

ACCENT AND DECK LIGHTING DESIGN TECHNIQUES- Add safety, security and ambience to your patio and deck areas a soft light. They are versatile and compact, installed under and along hand rails, porch uprights and alongside steps or over your house number.

SILHOUETTING- the silhouette of an object can be created by relecting light off a vertical surface behind it. The light source should be concealed, usually directly behind and below the object to be silhouetted.

UPLIGHTING- this technique provides dramatic effects the light source is mounted or recessed in the ground an angled up to display a tree, artwork or structure.

CROSS LIGHTING- this lighting variation uses two or more light source from below to illuminate an object from different directions.

DESIGN STRATEGIES- Begin by deciding the areas or objects you want to illuminate. Think about the mood or ambience you want to establish with your landscape lighting.
